Fundraising in London

Our fantastic supporter and volunteer Gillian Caplan held a pop up shop in London last month. She raised an incredible £820 for Eyes For East Africa! As well as this fantastic achievement, Gillian donates 10% of her online sales to Eyes For East Africa, specifically to support children in need of spectacles that cannot afford them. Have a look at her website for more information - www.gilliancaplan.com

Treatment at the Eye Centre

The Eye Centre remains as busy as ever providing essential and sight saving treatment.
This is Juma, who suffers from a very challenging condition in Africa; oculocutaneous albinism. Not only does he burn from the strong African sun on his skin but he cannot see well because, as elsewhere in his body, he has no pigment inside the eye.
It has taken a lot of work by our community-based worker Robert (seen here testing Juma’s vision with an E chart ) to get this child out of the hut in which he had been hidden and into school.

Kache struggled to weave as she gradually lost her sight. She didn't think anything could be done to help so she kept quiet but her family suffered alongside her.  She finally went blind from cataract and could no longer go alone to the bathroom, no matter contribute to the family’s income by weaving. The local shopkeeper asked us whether we would go and examine her. Here she is home again after her cataract surgery weaving away to do her bit for her family.

Simon needed glasses to see well at school. Glasses are expensive, but thanks to Gillian Caplan (see the story above!) We ere able to provide Simon with a pair of glasses and now he can see everything really clearly.

Regular giving

During these unusual times many of our fundraising efforts are on pause. This means we are relying more on our regular donors to continue to provide sight saving treatment. It is simple, safe and secure to set up a regular direct debit through the Charities Aid Foundation. Click on the link below to donate!
