Roger is one of our trustees and an honorary ophthalmic surgeon at the Eye Centre. He recently visited the Eye Centre for a week to give his input and train staff.
Here he is training Charity, our new clinical officer, to do laser treatment for glaucoma.
Eye Screenings
One of our biggest challenges is reaching those who cannot get to us. We regularly hold eye screenings in rural areas to find those with vision problems and offer them treatment. Here are some photos from a recent screening at a small local hotel.
A girl holds up her screening form. She was one of the many seen at a local hotel.

Eye Go Fishing
In December it was time for our annual fundraiser fishing competition 'Eye Go Fishing'. This year we took the event to a new location, Kilifi Boat Yard on the Kenyan coast. Many people took part - those who have been supporting the event for years, and plenty of new faces as well. The boat Instedda won the event overall by tagging and releasing a Sailfish, followed by Roxanne with Wahoo and Kingfish.
461,180 Kenyan Shillings (Over £3,500 GBP) was raised to save peoples’ sight through the work of Kwale Eye Centre. A massive thank you to all who took part! Here are some photos of Dr. Helen with participants and rather impressive looking catches!
team building
Working as a team is the key to success for any institution. Each year the staff at the Eye Centre spoil themselves and go on a team building exercise to relax and spend time together outside of work. It looks like they had a lot of fun!
