This child was healthy until he was weaned at the age of 2.His mother did not understand that she should offer him fruit and vegetables in addition to the local porridge made with ground maize and water. Neither did she understand that he should be immunized. Rashid caught measles and nearly died. He survived but his little body had used up it’s meager stores of vitamin A. He became blind because he was unable to heal his eyes. It is too late to do anything to save this child’s sight. Rashid is blind for life.
