DVD Offer |
You can now purchase a professionally made 33 minute video about Dr Helen Roberts MBE and her work at Kwale District Eye Centre which she set up in 1993 in a rural area of the Kenya coast south of Mombasa. It tells the remarkable story of how the eye centre has grown over the years into an eye hospital thanks to the drive and commitment of Dr Helen as she is known to everyone. The commentary by Joanna Lumley recounts the story of this English ophthalmologist who has restored sight to around 1,500 people each year. When not in the eye centre Dr Helen and her team go into the bush to visit patients and to screen potentially blind people in remote areas. Despite the facilities available many villagers are suspicious and afraid of modern medicine. Binti Shee Kiwi, an 18year old girl, is totally blind in her left eye. Despite getting as far as being brought into the hospital for surgery her father changes his mind at the last minute and takes her to a traditional healer instead. Payment for the DVD may be made on line in Sterling, Euros or US dollars. A proportion of the sale price will go to help the Eye Centre. Just click the Journeyman logo below for further information |
